In honor of National Women in Medicine Day, 360 Orthopedics celebrates Dr. Julie Barré and the women across our team who help patients move, recover and get back to the activities they love.

Celebrating Women in Medicine at 360 Orthopedics

September 17, 2026 marks the inaugural National Women in Medicine Day, a national observance created to recognize and celebrate the women making a difference across medicine and healthcare. (Women in Medicine®)

At 360 Orthopedics, it is an opportunity to recognize the women on our team who help patients move better, recover from injuries, manage pain and return to the activities they enjoy.

It is also a chance to highlight something many people may not realize: women remain significantly underrepresented in orthopedic surgery.

Women in Medicine: By the Numbers

Women now make up a growing share of the medical profession. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, women represented 38.7% of active physicians in the United States in 2024.

In orthopedic surgery, however, women represented just 6.8% of active physicians, one of the lowest percentages among medical specialties. (AAMC)

At the same time, women make up a substantial share of the broader healthcare workforce. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women represent 75.3% of U.S. healthcare practitioners and clinical professionals.

Together, these numbers highlight both the significant role women play across healthcare and the continued opportunity for greater representation within orthopedic surgery.

Meet Dr. Julie Barré

At 360 Orthopedics, we are proud to have Julie Barré, MD, as part of our physician team.

Dr. Barré is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and general orthopedics. She provides both operative and non-operative treatment for orthopedic conditions and injuries, helping patients return to normal function and the activities that matter to them.

Her path to orthopedic surgery is especially unique.

Before becoming a physician, Dr. Barré earned a degree in physical therapy and worked in the field before attending medical school. She later completed her orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia and a sports medicine fellowship at Hughston Clinic.

Her background in physical therapy continues to influence the way she approaches patient care today. She understands that successful orthopedic treatment is not only about diagnosing an injury or performing a procedure. It is also about helping patients regain strength, function and confidence throughout the recovery process.

Dr. Barré has also served as a team physician for collegiate basketball teams, high school football teams and a professional hockey team.

A Specialty That Is Changing

Orthopedics has historically been one of the medical specialties with the lowest percentage of female physicians, but the specialty continues to evolve.

For patients, greater representation across medicine means a broader and more diverse generation of physicians and healthcare professionals. For young women considering careers in medicine, seeing women already established in specialties such as orthopedic surgery can also help make those career paths more visible.

At 360 Orthopedics, we are proud to be part of that progress.

Celebrating the Women Across 360 Orthopedics

National Women in Medicine Day is about more than physicians. The official observance recognizes women throughout medicine and healthcare, including physicians, nurses, researchers, trainees, mentors, leaders and other professionals contributing to patient care. (Women in Medicine®)

At 360 Orthopedics, women play an important role throughout the patient experience.

Our current clinical team includes women serving as physician assistants, a nurse practitioner, physical therapists and occupational therapists, alongside the many women working throughout our offices and supporting patient care every day.

Orthopedic care rarely happens because of one person. It takes a team.

From the first appointment through treatment, rehabilitation and recovery, each member of that team plays a role in helping patients move forward.

Recognizing the Women Who Keep Our Community Moving

National Women in Medicine Day gives us a moment to recognize contributions that happen throughout the year.

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Julie Barré and all of the women at 360 Orthopedics whose knowledge, compassion and dedication help care for our patients and our community.

Thank you for everything you do to help our patients get back on their feet, back to work, back in the game and back to life.
